Thursday, September 12 marked LTC Arts Day for 2024. During the visit, everyone was split into two groups. The first group stayed in the auditorium and did musical theater type games and the second group went to a different room and did a drawing activity. Then, they would switch.
During the drawing activity the LTC art teacher talked about the different art classes that LTC offers — classes such as Art History and Art Education for Elementary School. Then, Art Instructor Angie Compton spoke about chimeras, griffins, and other historical collaboration animals.
We were tasked with picking three animals (humans included) and making a creature out of those three animals. We all got paper and got to drawing! Every drawing was different, even if people picked the same, or similar animals. We were all shown what we could make with a bit of creativity and a historical background.
During the theater activity, everyone gathered on stage with the LTC theater director. We played a game in which everyone walked around the auditorium. The rules were that we could walk anywhere (besides backstage and into the top of the house), and we weren’t allowed to talk. We were told to pick a random person in the room. We had to follow this person without getting too close or making it known that we were following this person. Then it changed. We had to stay as far away from the person as possible. The goal was to not get near them.
Afterward, we went back on the stage and discussed how that plays a part in theater, holding an adjective as a character.
We played again. This time we used different prompts. We were walking through a jungle, then walking through jello. Then we were transported to a desert. But then it was really cold. After that we had to act like our favorite animal.
Arts Day this year was a strong success! Everyone there was having fun and were enjoying the activities. We talked to current art students at LTC, and they told us how they enjoyed their classes and that being in a smaller class made things easier for them.
Good job to everyone who put it together and to those who went to Arts Day, I hope you had fun!
