There’s a new face at PHS– his name is Kurtis Plew, and he has entered the PHS history classroom!
Mr. Plew was excited when he applied to PHS; he had gone to Hutsonville High School and wanted to give back to his community.
He doesn’t plan on working at any other schools at this moment. He wants to keep his sights on PHS and his goals here.
Before freshman/new student orientation, he had no idea what the school and its students were like. He had been going by what the school’s website said regarding the school. When orientation came and went, he felt excited for the coming school year.
Regarding the topic of goals, Mr. Plew wants to earn a master’s degree so he can offer dual credit classes. He also wants to build up the history club.
The subject he teaches is something that he holds close; he really does enjoy history! And when it comes to any other subject he could’ve taught, he only ever thought about physical education or driver’s education. History was the main focus for him.
During high school, Mr. Plew had a student teacher in his history class. This student teacher taught in a way that he wasn’t used to seeing in a history class. This student teacher brought excitement to the class. This inspired Mr. Plew to become a history teacher himself.
Before PHS he had only ever student taught at Sullivan High School and Junior High and substituted at North Central. PHS is his first full time teaching job.
When it comes to hobbies, Mr. Plew enjoys hunting, fishing, and various other outdoor activities. He also enjoys spending time with friends and watching movies.
When asked about his favorite food he very specifically said “boneless honey barbecue wings!”
