The NCAA transfer portal finally closed on May 1st after being open since March 18th. The transfer portal is a time when players can opt to get drafted to another team potentially. It is also a time when a lot of big changes can happen. Big changes are exactly what happened in this year’s portal, especially for some of our local favorite teams.
Indiana Hoosiers
The Indiana Hoosiers have several men leaving the team. Some of them are seniors, like Anthony Walker and Xavier Johnson, but others are exploring their options. Kel’el Ware, a sophomore, is going to take his chance in the NBA draft. Meanwhile, CJ Gunn is going to play for DePaul, Payton Sparks is going to Ball State, and Kaleb Banks is transfering to Tulane.
Whenever it comes to Indiana’s incoming trasfers, they will recieve Oumar Ballo from Arizona, Kanaan Carlyle from Stanford, Myles Rice from Washington State, and Luke Goode from Illinois. With the transfers that they are getting, fans are hopeful that something can be done with the new roster.
Purdue Boilermakers
Zach Edey is going to leave Purdue to pursue his career in the NBA. Jones, Morton, and Martin are also seniors that are leaving. The only person that is transferring to another team is Mason Gillis, who is going to Duke.
Purdue is not going to be receiving any transfers, but they are expected to have 5 incoming freshmen next year.
Indiana State Sycamores
While there are no reported incoming transfers for Indiana State, there are a lot of people that are leaving for other teams. Avila and Swope are transferring to St. Louis, Conwell is going to Xavier, Kent and Larry are going to Texas, and Shetlar is undecided.
Illinois Fighting Illini
There are a lot of seniors that Illinois is going to lose this year. Shannon Jr., Domask, Hawkins, Guerrier, and Harmon. As for transfers to other schools, Dainja is going to Memphis, Hansberry and Harris are going to West Virginia, Moretti is up in the air still.
The players coming to Illinois include Jake Davis from Mercer, Carey Booth from Notre Dame, Tre White from Lousiville, Kylan Boswell from Arizona, and Ben Humrichous from Evansville.
