The History of Thanksgiving
November 28, 2018
Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday in the United States and Canada celebrating the harvest and other blessings of the past year. Americans generally believe that their Thanksgiving is modeled on a 1621 harvest feast shared by the English colonists (Pilgrims) of Plymouth and the Wampanoag people. The American holiday is particularly rich in legend and symbolism, and the traditional fare of the Thanksgiving meal typically includes turkey, bread stuffing, potatoes, cranberries, and pumpkin pie.
In today’s life we celebrate with our families and everyone has a different tradition to do with their families. Grace Correll said, “We play board games on the day of Thanksgiving and we put our tree up the day after.” Brendyn Piper said, “We break the wishbone.” Macy Biggs said, “We put the tree up the day after.”
“On our table we have a white sheet and write what we are thankful for and bring it out the next year and do it all over again.” said Ms. Waldrop, the principal.
