Yesterday, April 25th, Mrs. Inboden and her NCA classes went to Firefly Grill for an interactive experience with the restaurant in Effingham, IL. This was a perfect end to the Chopped Challenge that these classes just finished.
To start the class helped plant a variety of plants in the garden of raised beds. The students planted kale, flowers, carrots, squash, lettuce, beets, and many more plants with the help of their garden representative.
After planting, the class went inside and was told about how Firefly started and a little bit about their owners. The grill sits on about 3 acres of land, and they do plan to expand. Though the owners do not want another restaurant anywhere, they are planning to expand their garden and possibly start a retail store, selling soups, bread, and merchandise.
After the history the classes were served a four course meal, including salad, soup, an entree, and a beautiful gluten free dessert. Everyone had the option of a simple salad with house-made vegetables and dressing and a delicious house-made chicken and gnocchi soup. We also had the option of montana mignon, crab cakes, chicken parmesan, or pork steak.
