At some point in people’s lives, I am sure they have had or known someone to have an imaginary friend, whether it be something that is not there or a stuffed animal that you believe can come to life. This can be harmless, but what happens when it turns sinister?
Imaginary, a movie that was released March 8, 2024, is about an imaginary friend that turns out to be something far worse than a harmless children’s toy. A little girl, Alice, discovers a teddy bear in the basement named Chauncey and quickly formed a bond with the bear. There are a lot of situations where the bear “comes to life” and haunts the people at the house. Jessica, Alice’s sister, realizes that they are the only two that can see the bear. Chauncey was also Jessica’s imaginary friend, and she abandoned it when she moved away. A lady told her when she came back and saw Alice being taunted by the bear that imaginary friends are spirits who tether to the young and can become sinister if abandoned, which is what happened.
This movie was directed by Jeff Wadlow, who co-wrote the screenplay with Greg Erb and Jason Oremland. It was produced by Blumhouse.
Blumhouse has come out with many other scary movies, including Five Nights at Freddy’s, The Exorcist, Insidious, Black Phone, Halloween, and Happy Death Day.
