This coming weekend on March 10, 2024, daylight savings time will begin at 2:00 a.m. We will lose an hour of sleep but gain an hour of daylight. Thankfully for technology most clocks and phones will automatically adjust but you will want to double check to ensure they do!
Twice a year clocks will decide to play tricks on us, and it’s like a time rollercoaster whether we either lose or gain an hour of sleep. It is supposed to save energy so in the warmer months we push the clocks forward an hour and in the colder months we pull them back. The idea is to use more natural light and less fake light. But it can really mess with our sleep.
Some say if you adjust your bedtime before the time changes it will help. Personally, I just go with the flow. I personally don’t mind springing forward and losing the hour of sleep because it gives us more daylight in the evenings which means more time outside.
People also say that daylight savings time saves lives by allowing people more daylight to travel too and from places. It is also believed to reduce crime since there is less dark time and more people are out during the daytime rather than at night.
It has been debated in the past to not change our clocks and stay on permanent standard time. But every time daylight savings time comes out on top and we continue to change clocks in the spring and the fall.
