On Monday, February 12th, Katy Perry announced she was leaving American Idol. On “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” she announced to her fans that after 7 seasons, she is leaving.
In September, Katy will be doing a huge music festival in Brazil called Rock in Rio. She then stated this would be the last season of American Idol for her.
Katy stated, “I mean, I love ‘Idol’ so much. I know. It’s connected me with the heart of America. But I feel like I need to go out and feel that pulse to my own beat. You know what I’m saying, Jimmy?”
She still had not told Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie yet. She said that they would find out Monday night when she announced that. In my opinion and in the the opinion of some of her fans, this was not the way to do this.
Katy says she has been in the studio for a while, and wants to see the world and maybe bring new music. For now, Katy is on the 22nd season, which premieres on ABC February 18th. She has been with American Idol since season 16, in March 2018.
In her time in American Idol, she got engaged to Orlando Bloom. They also welcomed their first child, Daisy Dove. Katy also performed a residency show, Play, at Resorts World Theater.
ABC has not confirmed Katy Perry’s exit yet. Katy also states that “maybe I’ll come back if they have me one day.” Her fans are hoping for a new album drop, and to hear Katy’s new music!
