The current generation’s favorite accessory is the infamous Stanley cup. I guarantee you have all seen one, and most probably even own one. But have you heard of the company’s recent controversy?
Although Stanley cups have become popular in recent years, the company has been around for quite some time, establishing in 1913. Your dad probably even had a Stanley thermal in your cabinet and you didn’t know it! However, the new style is the Stanley Quencher.
The Stanley Quencher has been the talk of the town for their large size, product quality, and the style they provide. You can choose a size anywhere between 14oz to 64 oz depending on your age and how much water you drink. The insulated cup also keeps drinks cold all day. And, most importantly, is the style. It’s hard to find a teenage girl not carrying one of these down the street on this day in age.
However, Stanley has just released one flaw of this popular product. Stanley cups could possibly give you lead poisoning if not taken care of properly!
During the manufacturing process of the Stanley cup, lead is in use. The lead used in the cup is only posed as a risk if the protective seal on the bottom of the cup is exposed. If this protective cover is removed, the pellet that seals the cups vacuum insulation is exposed. Creators say that the removal of this stainless steel barrier is rare, but it is possible. This is when the risk to lead poisoning would be unmasked. Stanley is aware of the risk that is taken when manufacturing their cups, and is even taking the initiative to change materials for the sealing process.
Not to worry, “No lead is present on the surface of any Stanley product that comes into contact with the consumer nor the contents of the product,” Stanley statement notes explains.
Even with all these additives to the Stanley cup, can the company survive this controversy? Will you continue to buy from Stanley?
