It’s better late than never for the Coachella 2024 lineup announcement. Coachella features musical artists from many genres including pop, indie, hip-hop, and rock, and it also has art installations and sculptures. Across the grounds, several stages continuously host live music. While the Coachella lineup usually releases in early January, this year’s unveiling finally came on January 16th. The headliners this time around are Lana Del Ray, Tyler the Creator, Doja Cat, and the highly anticipated reunion of Gwen Stephani’s band No Doubt, who last performed together in 2015. Other notable acts include Bebe Rexa, Sabrina Carpenter, Ice Spice, Sublime, and J Balvin.
A little bit of history about Coachella:
Coachella was co-founded by Paul Tollett and Rick Van Santen in 1999 and is organized by Goldenvoice. The festival’s origins trace back to a 1993 concert that Pearl Jam performed while boycotting venues controlled by Ticketmaster. The show validated that the site could host large events, leading to Coachella Festival being held over the course of two days in October 1999. After no events were held in 2000, Coachella returned on an annual basis beginning in April 2001 as a single-day event. In 2002 the festival changed to a two-day format, and in 2007 it was expanded to a three-day event.
Last year’s Coachella was one of the most memorable events in recent memory, with the headliner Frank Ocean delivering a bizzare set to close the first weekend, and then dropping out of the second weekend on only a few days notice. Coachella 2024 will return to the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, for two weekends: April 12-14 and April 19-21. Ticket presales began January 19th at 11 a.m. PT/2 p.m. ET, and registration is now open on Coachella’s website.
