December 15th is the junior high winter dance at Palestine Grade School. These dances are a great time for students to socially interact with each other. Social interaction is one of the most important things that you can get from school and extracurricular activities. School dances such as winter dances, homecoming, and prom serve as a place for students to social interact with each other. Students are forced to find a date or a group of friends to attend with. It seems that school dances are becoming a thing of the past. Some school’s do not realize how beneficial these dances are to them and to the development of students. The social interaction allows students to develop social skills that will be valuable throughout their entire life. I think school dances are phasing out due to decreased student interest and involvement due to the rise in technology they can communicate with others over the internet. We are all forgetting the importance of face-to-face interaction. Some other benefits of school dances are:
- A dance provides a safe space for students.
- A dance creates memories that last a lifetime.
- A dance can force students to spend time interacting with others and better their social skills.
- A dance is a great fundraising opportunity for student activities.
- A dance could Create a greater sense of community within the school and boost morale.
Students have so much going on in their lives now between school, extra-curricular activities, work, etc. It is very important to have events like school dances to get them involved and having fun!
