Is hypnopedia possible? A question that some of the English IV students are having as we are reading the novel Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. Hypnopedia is learning while you are asleep or under hypnosis and Huxley dives into this learning technique in his novel and relies on it heavily. Throughout this novel, characters remember the slogans they are taught through hypnopedia including: “When and individual feels, the community reels”, “Ending is better than reading”, “A gramme is better than a damn”, “One cubic centimeter cures ten gloomy sentiments”,
and more. These slogans cause the people in this novel to live identical lives, except for one who almost ignores the slogans and tries to see the world differently.
But as we look at the root of the slogans and how they were implemented into the world, can this be done today, in out society. According to the National Library of Medicine, they said that learning while sleeping is possible but it would not have any affect on your abilities while in an awake state. However, there are people that believe that hypnopedia will and does work.
