Palestine High School Drama Club held its annual Haunted House last Friday and Saturday night, and it was a boo-ming success!
Nearly 200 people came in over the two night event, each paying $5 apiece, grossing Drama Club over $900. Of course, Drama Club won’t be keeping all $900 as it unfortunately costs money to make money, and many of the rooms spent over $100 on props and supplies. The profits from the events will help pay for props, costumes, backdrops, and scripts for our fall and spring plays, as well as pay for Drama Club members to travel to the Fox Theater in St. Louis in February to see the musical, Mamma Mia.
This year’s Haunted House focused on common phobias. The first room on the tour was the Spiders, Snakes, and Insects Room, led by Alix Bennett. After wondering through two rooms of webs and seeing giant spider, visitors traveled through Claustrophobic Alley, where they were most likely chased. After being left on the stage by the guide, visitors found themselves in the dark and were then scared by a chainsaw man into the back hallway and up the stairs onto the main hallway. At the end of the hall, visitors were greeted by dolls, Addi and Autumn, where they witnessed creepy possession first hand.
Next, visitors went into the Circus of Clowns and Mirrors, where crazed killer clowns, one of them coming out of a jack-in-the-box, chased them out. Upstairs, the next room on the tour was the dark room, where it turned out, you really did have something to be afraid of! Down the hall, visitors visited a doctor’s office where some very questionable surgery and methods were taking place. After taking the stairs all the way down to the bottom floor, visitors walked through a short blood-splattered clear plastic maze, only to be met by a squad of frightening creatures dressed in black who chased them out the cafeteria door.
Other than a visitor choking a “doll,” and a couple of obnoxious glow stick throwing junior high boys, the haunted house ran smoothly both nights, although Drama Club members would tell you that Saturday’s experience was better because the football boys and cheerleaders were able to help too that night.
Until next year….Happy Halloween
