The Illinois High School Rodeo Association has been busy in the last two months with holding several rodeos for junior high and high school students. With rodeos in Monticello, New Windsor, and Beecher, the next stop on the list is right here in Palestine. The Pioneer City Rodeo Arena is going to get some action once again after having the 56th annual rodeo over Labor Day weekend.
On September 30th and October 1st, the IHSRA is going to be hosting a rodeo for high school students from all over Illinois at the Pioneer City Rodeo Arena. This is just one of many rodeos in which teens have the opportunity to compete against other kids their age. If they are one of the top scorers in their event, they will get the opportunity to travel to the state rodeo in Sheridan, where they will compete against other top scorers from the previous rodeos.
There are going to be plenty of events at the rodeo for everyone to enjoy. Some of the events that you can expect to see are barrel racing, bareback riding, steer wrestling, and pole bending. Probably one of the most anticipated and fan favorite events that will take place is bull riding.
On Saturday September 30th, the rodeo will begin at 10 am and there will be a high school cutting event held at 7 pm. On Sunday October 1st, the rodeo will start at 9 am. Both nights the junior high and high school participants will compete together. The IHSRA has free admission, so anyone that is looking for something fun to do this weekend can come watch.
