Towards the end of last school year Mr. Will suggested the Homecoming dance be held on a Friday night, just after the football game. While this would be new for Palestine, it is actually pretty common for most schools in the area to have their Homecoming dance after the football game. Mr. Will talked about making the dance less formal since it would be after school and then after the football game at the PGS Pavilion.
Mr. Will received numerous emails and had conversations with several different students about having the dance after the football game. Some students were upset to hear that the dress code would be informal because they had already bought their dresses. Some were upset because it would be several hours after the game and be held late into the night when athletes and cheerleaders were already exhausted from their activities earlier in the day.
After meeting with the School Senate and getting more of an understanding of what the students wanted, it has been decided that the dance will be held on Saturday, October 14, from 7pm to 10pm. The location of the Homecoming dance will be at the red pavilion on Main Street, just as it has been for the last several years. The dance is open to all Palestine High School students and any OPH student athletes. The dress code will be shared at a later date.
Mr. Will says that he is hoping that by holding the dance on a different day from the football game, more will be able to attend the dance.
