Hush is a horror movie that has had lots of good reviews. It got a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 6.6/10 on IMDb. Hush was released in 2016 and was directed by Mike Flanagan. Some of the main characters include Kate Siegel (Maddie) , John Gallagher Jr (The Man), and Samantha Sloyan (Sarah).

The movie happens within the time frame of one night. The main character, Maddie, is deaf and lives on her own in the middle of the woods. Her neighbor Sarah comes over to talk about the book she read that was written by Maddie. They then go inside because the meal that Maddie had been making started filling the house with smoke. They are alarmed by a sensor in her home that is so loud that she can feel the vibrations from it and a bright light flashes to get her attention if something triggers it.

Sarah goes home and a few hours later Maddie sits down to try to finish the ending to one of her new books. Out of nowhere Sarah comes running up on the porch with blood all over herself and a few seconds later a bow goes right through her. A masked man walks up and kills her without Maddie even knowing.

Maddie’s sister then calls her after the killing ended. The masked man ends up getting into her house and the sister sees him standing behind Maddie, but when Maddie turns around he is gone.

After the call ends with her sister Maddie tries again to write the ending of her book. While she is trying to do that she gets messages on her computer that were taken on her phone and they appear to be taken outside. She gets up to look outside and sees the masked man standing in the front yard with her phone in his hand. Maddie runs to every door so they are locked but the man still tries to get inside. He goes around to the power box and cuts the electricity to the entire house.

All through the night Maddie fights for her life. The man tries multiple ways to get into the house and Maddie tries multiple ways to get away from the house. She is successful by getting the cross bow he had, stabbing him in the arm, and spraying wasp repellent in his eyes. The down fall for Maddie is that before she got the cross bow away from the man he had shot her in the leg making it difficult for her to move around.

Towards the end of the movie the man finds his way into the house without Maddie knowing and attempts to kill her, but she gets away. They make their way to the living room where he tries choking her but she gets ahold of a bow and pushes it through the mans neck hitting multiple major arteries. Maddie just barely made it out alive that night and after the fighting is over she then calls 911 and the movie ends.

I thought this was a great movie. You are on the edge of your seat the whole time, wondering what the next move for either person will be. Macy Biggs has watched this movie and says, “the whole entire movie made me anxious.”

Brendyn Piper has also seen the movie and says that “it seems very possible that this could really happen to someone and that’s what scares me.”

I definitely recommend this movie if you are wanting to have a movie night with your family or your friends.
