Volleyball out of L.O.V.C. Tournament

Last night was the second round of conference for the Hutsonville-Palestine lady tigers. They played against the Cumberland pirates for the second time in a week. They were hopeful going into in the first set that they could find holes and have good defense against their big hitters.

But the first set didn’t go as planned. The tigers had lots of hits going out of bounds or into the net and their defense wasn’t picking things up like they normally do. The pirates middle hitter ran a very good quick set which made the hit hard to get to, and if it went off the block there wasn’t really any way for someone to get to it. The lady tigers lost the first set of the game.

But the second set was completely different. Their hitting had improved, the defense was adjusting and the pirates were starting to shut down. Good passes made good sets and the hitters were able to put the ball down. The momentum was high for Hutsonville-Palestine. They won the second set and were ready to show the pirates who they really are.

The lady tigers took off with the lead and had lots of good serves right out of the gate. They were trying to stay up but slowly started letting the pirates back in. the momentum was draining from the court due to the heat. The score went back and forth between the teams but the pirates took the lead. They beat the Lady Tigers in three tough sets.

Cumberland will move on to Arthur and play on Thursday. Hutsonville-Palestine will have their next regular season game on Tuesday at Hutsonville against Martinsville starting at 6.
